There’s nothing better than heading out in search of the natural world, found objects, and available light.

I’m a Californian resident with a Caledonian accent. Born and raised in Scotland, I’ve led a semi-nomadic life, so photography has helped me explore and establish a connection with the places I’ve lived.

I love being outside and photography is an extension of the outdoor experience. As an introvert, I appreciate the moments of mindfulness and quiet solitude that nature brings. It’s so important for mental health and I love the challenge of capturing that feeling of peace and inspiration.

I like to work with natural, available light, and I primarily use Canons with full-frame sensors because the huge pixel count lets me capture the moment with the freedom to refine the composition later. Through my background as a designer, I’ve developed an appreciation for simple, minimalist compositions, but I’m always striving to go beyond purely aesthetic choices and authentically connect with the environment.

From great photographers like Ansel Adams, I learned that it’s about making pictures, not taking them. I make these for myself, but I hope they mean something to you too. I’m honored my images have been featured by Nature Photographer, Amateur Photographer, NANPA, Lee Filters, and PhotoPills.

Please consider joining me in supporting the Sierra Club, Wild Diversity, Conservation Kids, the Marin Audubon Society, or the Nature Conservancy.
